Monthly Budget Planner: Set Category Limits and Get Alerts Before You Overspend

A budget only works if you know you're close to the limit before you cross it. Here's how Fincency's Budget Plan and alerts do that.

Why most budgets fail

People set a budget on the 1st and discover on the 30th that they blew it. The problem isn't the plan — it's that nothing warned you in time.

Set a monthly limit per category

On the Budget Plan page, type a limit next to any category — Groceries ₹10,000, Rent ₹15,000, Eating out ₹3,000 — and press save. Fincency tracks your real spending from Expense Entries against each limit.

Alerts at 75%, 90% and 100%

The bell in the header warns you as you approach each limit, sorted by urgency:

  • 75% used — a friendly heads-up
  • 90% used — e.g. 'Groceries is 90% used — only ₹1,000 left'
  • 100%+ — marked 'Over budget' in red

Compare budget vs actual every month

The Month-end Summary shows budget against actual spending for the last six months, your best month and how often you went over. Patterns — like groceries creeping up — become obvious.

Three habits that keep you on budget

Log bills the day you pay them (or import your bank statement), glance at the bell once a week, and adjust limits after a month of real data instead of guessing.
